Barmuda, Newtown

Mmm Breakie with friends. Gotta love the weekends.

At 6am a flurry of sms occurred when the realisation hit that it had been raining all night and into the morning. Our plans to hit the Growers Market were dashed. None of us were brave enough to venture out into the cold rainy day so early.

So, my other plans for the day, a catch up with expectant parent friends who live far from the inner city, was the next best thing.

First we ventured over to Deus Cafe at Deus ex Machina at Camperdown. The room was packed, with a queue. No joy there.

So off to Newtown we head. We end up at the end of Australia Street at Barmuda. This unassuming little place close to King Street, is a lovely little secret. Much like the pub a few doors up with the beergarden overrun with frangipanis.

We head upstairs and settle into a corner, and I’m guided to the Veggie breakie, which has a name I can now not recall called Local Planet. It consists of mushrooms, home made baked beans, tomato, toast, mushrooms, and eggs and a potato bake and looks like this:

Very tasty breakfast, though I find the potato somewhat dry, and the pieces of toast a little too small for the egg and baked beans…the eggs however were poached perfectly and the beans tomato-ey and herby with small bay leaves? mixed through. The mushrooms were also great, though the tomato was uninspiring.

The pregnant third of our trio has lost her taste for coffee so instead orders a berry and apple frappe. What is delivered to the table is the most gloriously coloured concoction I’ve ever seen:

Hmmm, bit of a lacklustre post I’m afraid. Breakfast was much more about the company than the food in this instance, but I must say the coffee was bloody good.

We were discussing later on that the food was less exciting than we seem to recall it – so our apologies for causing the lacklustre post!!

But, as you said – the company was good, and the pregnant one liked the frappe!

S is for Shitty weather, but it’s also for a Super Saturday so thanks!

No, the lacklustre post is entirely down to me and my lack of engagement in the posting process!

The vegie breakfast looks pretty good, usually when I see one I usually feel that they miss something but that looks good. The frappe looks great, I can almost smell the sweet berries!
